MiniFlash
From Mountain Models

The Mini Flash is ready and have had its first flight. Heavy and cold winds, but we survived!
The Mini Flash is a 32" span lightweight 3D model. Recommended power is a GWS EPS 300 (300 size motor), 8 cells. I use a stock motor on a 6.3:1 gearbox and 3 Kokam LiPo cells 1500HD. Prop is 12 x 6 SlowFly.
It is very easy to assemble. The laser cut parts fit well and the design is not too complicated. If you use cyano, a week or two of evenings is enough. Unfortunately, I am allergic to cyano glues and have to use aliphatic resin. The new "thin" type is perfect for this type of laser cut parts!

Plenty of space inside. LiPo pack pushed forward, almost up to the motor. A NiCd/NiMH pack can be placed a bit back. Velcro tape holds the battery and the receiver.
The only deviations from the buliding instruction:
- no Tyvek hinges for the canopy. I used a simple wood dowel at the front, magnet at the rear, right side.
- no tail wheel. I used a bent wire skid, glued in the rudder and supported by thin ply each side

Servos are four Hitec HS-50. I think the servo plates are intended for HS-55, and that would be a better choice. Lower cost, more power. The receiver is a Jeti Rex 5 ch. ESC is a new Jeti Jes 020 with LiPo support. The flying weight is 445 gr (15 oz.), and it balanced OK without any ballast (I just moved the battery a bit forward).

Have a look at Mountain models home page, you may get inspired by it, like I did. There are also some videos of these models:
I find the MiniFlash a "very good value for money" model. It can fly well on a standard motor set-up. A small brushless will be interesting.....

FLYING NOTES
The wind was so strong on my first flight, so I could not trim the airplane. I could however get a good presentation of its flying abilities. Anything you are capable of, this airplane will perform!
The kit price is US$ 55.00. A complete motor/gearbox/prop set is US$ 19.00.
Reasonable I think, and a good thing with MM kits is that you can get spare parts if needed, e.g. canopy, wing and fuselage kits. There is also an optional "Speed Wing" kit for the MiniFlash.

The MiniFlash has now been updated with a brushless; The ULTRAFLY A/30/24 (Ultrafly Model, Taiwan). It is an outrunner inside a protecting shell. The Kv is rather high, and a gearbox should be used. It is delivered with a GWS stick mount and gears for four different ratios. On three LiPo cells I use 1:3,89 and 10x7 APC SlowFly. Excellent power for my MiniFlash! The motor/gearbox runs extremely smooth and quiet.
The motor/gearbox, prop and a Castle Creations Phoenix-25 ESC was ordered from AirCraft in Japan. It was delivered to my door in seven days - very good service! My choice of prop was based on an AirCraft suggestion.
